SUMMER Seasonal Home Checklist

Nothing makes summer more fun than home maintenance. Right? Wrong. So, we'll keep this one easy.

1. SHOWER DRAINS AND CURTAINS Summer can be a great time to clean the hair out of your shower and bathroom sink drains. Even a $7 tool like this from Home Depot can solve most drain issues. Bonus: now might also be a convenient time to replace your old shower curtain liners with fresh, clean ones.

2. CHECK FOR LEAKS Take a few minutes to clean out under your bathroom and kitchen sinks to check for any plumbing leaks, drips, or related water damage you might not otherwise notice on a daily basis.

3. CLEAN YOUR BLINDS This one is the worst, we know. But, let's just all do it and get it over with. While the light is bright and the air is fresh, set aside some time to dust off and wash down your blinds. They naturally collect dirt and dust by their proximity to open windows, so they need the occasional cleaning. The next time you have company over, they will no doubt compliment you on your amazingly clean blinds and you'll feel as proud as a six year child with a participation trophy.

4. HOME INSPECTION PUNCH LIST If you bought your home in the last few years, you might still have your home inspection report. Consider blowing the dust off of it and checking to see if there were any punch list items you had meant to take care of but forgot about. Could be a loose gate or an uncovered outlet. Who knows what treasures you'll find!

5. FURNACE FILTER Replace your furnace filter. A clean filter is essential to keeping your home cooled or heated consistently and affordably. It's also an easy way to maximize the lifespan of your furnace or air conditioning unit. These should be replaced no less than every 90 days.

Follow these tips to ensure your home stays in tip top shape year round.
